Track and Field Photography
Geneva College hosted a track and field meet recently, their only home meet this year, and I thought I would go down and try out some of my new gear there. I focused on telling a story with the pole vaulters as well as some of the runners.
It was fascinating to watch the pole vaulters and their preparation rituals before their jump. They needed to be so patient, so focused, waiting for just the right moment, the right stillness in the air, and then execute all at once with commitment and perfect form in order to clear the bar. This vaulter from Westminster, in particular, had excellent form.
I felt these images of this vaulter worked very well in black and white. I wanted to emphasize the focus in the moment of preparation, and then the stark lines of the bar and the muscles of the athlete in the moment of the jump.
