Wedding at the SteelStacks | Evan and Megan

I love that I have the opportunity to photograph wedding stories in unique locations. Over the years I’ve been at beautiful wineries, huge cathedrals, and even a 1700’s mill, but Evan and Megan’s wedding took the cake by being at the Bethlehem Pennsylvania SteelStacks.

When I first met Evan and Megan, it was back at the Tidal Basin in Washington DC for their March engagement session. That day was was far from warm, which gave them perfect practice for their chilly wedding in Bethlehem Pennsylvania at the ArtsQuest Center at the SteelStacks.

Megan grew up just minutes from the SteelStacks and shared that “being born and raised in Bethlehem, PA, a lot of the city’s pride is wrapped up in its history of producing steel for the country. The Brooklyn Bridge, Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, and many WWI and WWII ships were produced in my hometown. We both have an appreciation for that era of American industry, so we thought having our wedding at the SteelStacks with the old blast furnaces as our backdrop would be unique and very us.”

With a first look directly under the SteelStacks and plenty of time to explore the complex, we had no end to incredible photo locations. It was a special day filled with stories, stories like how they cut their wedding cake. During the reception Evan and Megan made a point to pay homage to the 243rd birthday of the Marine Corps by slicing their cake with a Marine sword and giving the first slice to Megan’s 93 year old grandfather, a veteran of WWII.
