Golden sand and rich blues of the water and sky are generally things I want to highlight when I shoot photos at the beach. But this time around I took the editing in a different direction, making each of my favorite images black and white.

This was partially so that I can could have more time to play with black and white editing, but it was also fun to see the beach in a different way. Eliminating the color reduced the images to more simple grayscale shapes and textures. This transformed images from a place that I had been to many times into completely new scenes.

The image below is my favorite from this set, and I wanted to highlight it in particular. This is ten images that I overlayed in Photoshop. My purpose with this image was to convey the parallel I saw of our lives with how many people were going by in a very short amount of time.

This is the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk in Delaware, and although it was October there were still a lot of people. I was struck by how all of us were there on the same day, led there to do a number of different yet similar things, and how all of us are going through life in different ways, with different focuses, talents, and God-given abilities. These people and many more went by in a matter of 1-2 minutes, and in the grand scheme of things we are only on this Earth for a short vapor of time, quickly gone and replaced by others. It made me think of how important this life is, how it is to be treasured and used well. It is a gift from God not to be taken lightly.
