Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards Wedding | Charlottesville, Virginia

Some weddings feel like they begin long before the ceremony, and Micah and Elizabeth’s Pippin Hill Farm wedding—just outside of Charlottesville, Virginia—was one of those. I’ve had the joy of knowing Liz for years, as she is an excellent full-time wedding planner of her own! It was a blessing to be asked to document her and Micah’s wedding story.

I joined them on a hot June afternoon for portraits before their rehearsal at Pippin Hill. Of course we had to go by and see the chickens during their portraits. In general the day felt like a reunion long overdue. Laugher, hugs, and stories were constant. One of my favorite images of the day came when the flower girls, completely in their own world, crouched down just before the rehearsal began to admire a butterfly that had landed beside them—a reminder of how magic appears in the small in-between moments.

We made it through the rehearsal and the sweat and moved into a relaxed evening at Ragged Branch Distillery, just a short drive from the vineyard. Everyone sipped cocktails, swapped stories, and took in the sweeping mountain views. A quick summer storm rolled through, cooling the air and adding drama to the sky. I loved capturing the heartfelt toasts and the fun mother–daughter dance. Liz is a dancer, so you can imagine how fun it was to share that with her mom. But one of my favorite images was the beautiful first hug between Micah’s and Liz’s moms. These pre-wedding gatherings and rehearsal dinners are some of my favorite times to photograph—they set the tone for the wedding day and give everyone a chance to truly be present.

The wedding day brought something we were all so excited for: overcast skies! Everyone looked forward to not standing in full sun. The soft, filtered light and misty clouds over the Blue Ridge Mountains made Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards look even more romantic and mysterious. Liz and her dad shared some of my favorite moments of the day—from seeing each other the first time to walking down the aisle together, to his speech and father-daughter dance at the reception. The ceremony was filled with personal touches: readings by loved ones, music performed by friends, and a high energy recessional that led right into a drone-shot group photo.

Their reception was the perfect blend of elegance and energy. The food was outstanding and DJ Gbaby kept the dance floor more than alive all night. Everyone was there to celebrate!

At their in-person reveal, Micah and Liz told me how grateful they were, and I shared the same. This was a wedding where I documented friends, industry relationships, and was able to give the two of them a lasting legacy of images that they can hold on to for the rest of their lives. Documenting their wedding wasn’t just about capturing what happened—it was about preserving how it felt: the warmth, the joy, the connections, and being fully present to soak in everything that happened. These are the kinds of weddings—and the kinds of people—that remind me why I do what I do.

If you’re planning your own wedding at Pippin Hill Farm or are looking for a photographer in Charlottesville or anywhere else, I’d love to help you preserve the kind of warm, joy-filled, real moments Micah and Elizabeth shared. Send me a note to get started.
