What could be more intimate than having your wedding at your childhood home? Logan and Laura invited 50 of their closest family and friends to join them in Laura’s hometown backyard in Washington DC, a place they knew would be welcoming, familiar, and heartfelt.

I’m always excited when I get to document someone in their home. It is a place filled with memories and full of context. For Laura, she put on her dress in the room next to where she spent countless nights. She got her makeup done in the sunroom where she ate meals from childhood to adulthood. Every step of her wedding was layered with history. It made the story-telling part of my work so fulfilling.

For Logan, this might not have been his childhood home, but he has a very strong relationships with his in-laws and treasured the opportunity to share in this day at their home. His experience was a bit different, being that he was in a boot from a recent leg injury. He leaned into this reality, not letting it hinder his excitement or joy. I fully embraced it as part of their story and a sacred part of their wedding day.

Vows were made, tears fell, hugs exchanged, and neighbors came by to share their love. Guests formed a procession, lead by a trumpet and saxophone, to parade to the reception at The Hunter’s Hound, a nod to Laura’s love for New Orleans.

Their reception was absolutely full of great food, creative cocktails, powerful speeches, and many deep connections between human beings. It was a wonderful to witness and document. Thank you Logan and Laura for trusting me with your story, inviting me in to document these memories.
