Shenandoah Wedding in the Clouds | Matt and Dawn

Wedding

From getting engaged in Spain to being married in the Shenandoah, Matt and Dawn love adventure, travel, and beautiful places. The Shenandoah became their wedding venue when after a hike and while swinging in their hammocks they realized “how much peace the park brings us, away from the hustle of our daily lives.”

For the couple and their friends and family, this became a weekend away where they could relax, enjoy time with each other and celebrate the wedding together. No one guessed what that would look like when the time came. As I drove up to the Shenandoah that day I could see the rain clouds hovering over the mountains. It turned out to be a wedding in the clouds!

Fortunately we didn’t experience any rain until later after the ceremony, but they literally said “I do” in a cloud! Later we went for portraits at an overlook, hoping in vain that a break in the clouds might appear. They continuously rolled over the ridge, blocking the views of the valley, yet we were still were able to enjoy portraits with the lush green, winding trees, and even a few shots in the rain.

Check out first few images to see the invitations and stationary Dawn made herself! That is some incredible design work. Details like that and the 1920’s engagement ring Matt gave her made this day unique all around. Enjoy Matt and Dawn’s photo story!

I don’t take it lightly when you invite me into your story.

After 10+ years and hundreds of weddings, this remains true: it all starts with trust, connection, and a shared belief that this really matters.

Whether we’re hiking through Shenandoah, gathering with your people downtown, or in the backyard of a beloved home, I’m there to notice what’s sacred and make it last. I aim to capture the kind of photographs that don’t just look beautiful, but genuinely reflect you and the life you’re creating.
