 Washington DC WWII Memorial Elopement

This DC elopement wasn’t your average love story. Most of the couples we photograph are getting married relatively early in life but Richard and Bonnie’s experience was a little different.

Life brought them together long ago first as friends, then as a couple for decades. But it was fall of 2022 that brought them together in marriage, as they decided to officially elope after they learned about Richards cancer diagnosis.

Richard’s beard is a sight to behold and it’s been a a part of his identity for decades. Due to his cancer treatment they knew his beard would not last long. Along with images of their elopement, they knew they also wanted some photos of Richard with his awesome beard.

They chose the DC World War II memorial due to Bonnie’s serving in the Air Force and for her parents who were engaged on December 7, 1941. We made a stop by the Vietnam memorial for Richard to pay tribute to his friends who’s names are on that wall and gave their lives to serve our country. Lastly we made our way to Rock Creek Park to enjoy the perfect fall weather and colors, finishing it all with a few berries and cream together.

For Richard and Bonnie this was far more than just a wedding, it was a chance to enjoy doing life together and honor their past at the same time. It was their story through and through, and I’m blessed to have been able to document it.
