Big Meadows Shenandoah Engagement | Rob and Cris
Looking back, some of my favorite engagement sessions have been on days where we were not sure it was going to happen! Leading up to the day of Rob and Cristina’s engagement in the Shenandoah National Park we knew there was a strong change for storms in the area. But I wanted to be patient, having learned from experience that a storm earlier in the day likely leads to epic sunset skies! High risk, high reward.
Rob and Cris chose to have their engagement session at Big Meadows in the Shenandoah, a place they have explored and enjoyed together before as a couple. While most of the mountain range is rather narrow, this area is unique, opening up to a large, wide meadow unlike any other place in the national park. Small grassy trails lead us throughout the meadow as we explored and enjoyed seeing the wildlife around us, including some very friendly deer!
After having had video and phone calls with Rob and Cris, it was a blessing to finally meet and get to know this vibrant couple. They brought along a small picnic to enjoy together in the meadow, wanting to make this a date rather than just a photoshoot. We started out in casual attire at the meadow, then changed into more formal wear as we explored nearby overlooks at sunset. Leftover storm clouds rolled lazily over the mountains, giving us a bit of rain, then opening to a grand colors in the sky.
We were all surprised at just how late the light persisted that night, being just a few days after the longest day of the year. This was one my first sessions after a long COVID hiatus and it was good to be back. Enjoy their photo story video below, or see the individual images below!
