Wedding at Georgetown University, Washington DC

Brian and Gabby’s wedding was one of the highlights of my year. Their early fall wedding in DC was simple in all the right ways, deeply personal, and creatively fulfilling; everything I could have hoped for as a wedding photographer.

The day centered around the Westin Georgetown in Washington DC, with the wedding at Dahlgren Chapel, Georgetown University. “Georgetown University is where everything began for us. The first four years of our relationship, the earliest highs and lows, were all there. It’s where we fell in love. It’s where we chose each other time and time again.”

This wedding was simple in that the timeline gave everyone the space to experience the day naturally and not be pressured. The priority for Brian and Gabby was their people, so they made sure to build in space to enjoy it with those who mattered most. For me that meant I got to document lots of slow, meaningful interactions, cherished conversations, and plenty of emotional hugs.

But this day was much deeper than what you could see on the surface. Gabby had recently lost her father, leaving her and many others with tearful memories throughout the day. One of my favorite moments was of Gabby’s grandmother holding up a glass in memory of her son, Gabby’s father. Her eyes reflected the firelight from the candles scattered around the many reception tables, a small smile on her face as they raised a glass in his honor. It was a small moment that showed the power of family.

I left the day creatively fulfilled, grateful that Brian and Gabby and their family gave me the access to document such impactful moments. From laughter to tears, I captured many stories that will only grow in importance as time goes on. I always want to foster an environment where you can be yourself on your wedding day. We aren’t there for photography, so you don’t have to put on airs and you don’t have to fake anything for the sake of the camera. Ultimately, you’re there to make real memories, I’m there to document them so you can relive them for the rest of your lives. Thank you Brian and Gabby for allowing me into your lives.
